We use Norton here, and what they've for us is: Have the icon on the tray, but we can not uncheck the "Load Norton Antivirus services" option. This allows us to do a scan, and check that our signitures are up to date without giving us the ability to stop the antivirus program.

I would think your program would allow something like that as well. Probably a registry setting.
