Hi Andrew,

I was following this thread and went to the Manifold site to do some investigating. While the product looks very good considering the price, I did find out one major issue that I have with it. The sales people confirmed for me that Manifold does not supply an ActiveX control that I can use in a VFP form (or any Windows form for that matter, eg. VB).

I see this as a major factor for me not to use it since I like the idea of embedding GIS capabilities directly into my VFP apps and not have to open another app to do it. ESRI's MapObjects has what I need. Too bad about the price.

Just my 2 cents.

Regards,

Mike

>
  • The responsiveness of the company to customer requests. Every new service pack is jammed with new features that customers have requested, and there have been a number of occassions where people -- including me -- have asked how to do something, only to be sent a script by the tech support people within a very short time period (within days, sometimes even hours) to solve their problem.

  • The on-line community. There is a very active peer support mailing list which is one of the few on-line communities I've come across that comes close to the Fox community in terms of support and readiness to help.
    >Simply put, I think it's a great product with great support at an unbeatable price (and no, I dont have shares <g>).

    >>Andrew,
    >>Simply put THANKS ! If you didn't provide this link I might never know about manifold. Its formats, capabilities, price ... are fantastic. It even can work with AVHRR format (we're one of the AVHRR ground stations) !!! Having not only multi thousands dollars ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcWhatever, MapObjects but ERDAS, IDRISI etc in our institution I was simply going mad to deal with their problems on Unix and PC (generally actual users want transformations those packages do not natively support or hard to do and they're not programmers to understand most of the formats).
    >>I'll try to convince them to buy and even if they don't do I might think buying myself at that astonishing price:)
