I've set this property in the dropdown event. No luck. Also presetting the property to say 5 doesn't help either.

I did some testing with this and what I discovered is pretty goofy < s >.

When I had code to set the combo's ListCount in the combo's requery(), I saw the same results as you did. When I moved the code out of the combo and into the option group that determined which items were displayed in the combo, it mysteriously started working.

So I suggest that you move the code that sets the listCount out of the combo and see what happens.
