There's a very old story about a puppet that worked so hard to live in the real world, it eventually stopped being a puppet. In time, the daily experience of interacting in the real world connected this wooden puppet to all of the humans he was in contact with until eventually he was indistinguishable from them. An unstated consequence (one might say fallout) of the fable is that eventually the people around him were equally indistinguishable from the wooden puppet.
