Well, the conflict being that generally we're here to promote vfp and solve visual foxpro problems and there could be the tendancy of Ken to say that we just need to use VS.NET in certain areas, with the hidden intention to extend sales of VS.NET(along with the latest version of .vfp.), at the expense of solving vfp problems or promoting VFP in new areas. He certainly has a right to do this, though. I'm just pointing out that this could be a problem area since we're in a vfp forum, IMO.
>I don't see the conflict of interest. It is in MS's interest to promote .NET and to have customers adopt that technology and Ken supports that position.

>>This brings up the conflict of interest question again. I would argue that Ken is not trying actively to build up the VFP market or attract more new users. The evidence: very little web stuff in the newer versions, a significant tailing off in vfp web services examples, support, etc. When was the last time you heard one of the microsofties here address a web question?? This could probably be applied to other technologies that might be in common with .NET and vfp as well. Ken and M$ would much rather you buy several products (including the latest version of vfp) than just one. The end result, of course, is that the market for vfp decreases because it's perceived to not have a lot of the latest and greatest capabilities..
>>>Interesting point. It is similar to the point I called Craig on - basically making an assertion with no factual basis to make that assertion.
>>>
>>>But is it similar????
>>>
>>>There is a lot of acecdotal/circumstantal evidence to allow one to draw the conclusion that the market for VFP is shrinking. Time and time again, when MS has been asked why they don't invest in Fox - the answer is that the market served by Fox is declining, has no upside, and as a result - does not warrant investment. Clearly, the focus is on the type of computing ala .NET, Longhorn, etc.
>>>
>>>For a while, Ken was up here practically begging people to upgrade to the next version (7 at the time). For whatever reason - 7 upgrades fell short of expectations. There is no evidence to indicate that 8 sales made up for - and surpassed what 7 was supposed to do.
>>>
>>>There is more than enough info out there - in spite of not having hard numbers - to conclude that 8 sales are poor. You can say they are good since the market continues to decline - can you???

>>>I agree that some of his observations he stated in this thread are accurate. However, he also claimed that VFP 8 sales are poor. That is what I challenged him on. He has little or no way of knowing this.
