Hi, Mike.
>As for doing this "extremely non-standard" thing...well I'm trying to copy the menu styles of modern desktop applications (like OfficeXP?). I don't have it on my PC here at work, but, if my memory is correct, those menus have a white background with a light grey stripe running down the left side of the menu. They look flat, have a shadow and sometimes contain a picture/icon in the grey area. I hope that this qualifies as a "valid" reason :)
To give the menu the XP look and feel in VFP 8.0 you just need to set _Screen.Themes=.t.
After that, the menu will get the properties of the currently applied theme. No need to add anything else.
If you want a cooler menu, you can wait a little until the guys at
www.VFPSkin.com.ar release the latest version of VFPSkin, which will allow to skin the menus also. I saw a preview of this feature, and it really rocks!
Hope this helps,
