You may be the exception :-) Within 10 minutes of first turning on our DSL line here, one unpatched machine got the Blasted - mine. Everyone else was up to date, firewall up to par, etc.

I don't think we've ever had a virus (but then we've never been dumb enough to use Outlook or Outlook Express). That goes for all the workstations and servers here at ARS as well as all my personal machines.
