Aside from the developers, can anyone tell me if this is a product worth using? I've looked at the demo and don't find it too appealing. The problems I see are this:
1) It seems to assume that all the reports will be free-standing reports outside the EXE. This is a bad assumption, IMHO. It offers a solution for reports compiled into the EXE, but I tried the solution and it does not work.
2) I'm not 100% sure that it's possible to avoid their dialog for selecting the report, the output format, etc. I would never want to use that and although it seems that I can avoid it, I couldn't get the demo to work so I'm left a bit unsure on this matter.
3) This may be minor, but in their SAMPLE program, which they say can be used directly in your apps, they have a CLOSE TABLES ALL and a CLOSE DATABASES ALL statement. That can be easily commented out, but why in the world would you ever do that? Almost without a doubt, you would cause great harm to the 'parent' application. Again, these lines are easily commented out, but it leaves me wondering what other impolite things might be going on (changing of SETtings and not changing them back, for instance).
Ok, so these are my concerns, but maybe I'm off base. Can anyone give me some thoughts on this product? If it can deliver what it promises while not forcing a certain technique on me, then it would seem to be well worth the money.
