So am I right in thinking that SQL Server doesn't utilise rushmore technology? And could you remind me how many versions of SQL before this were 100% designed and written by MS? MS has created a LOT of software, yet you can only name 1 product.

>>Yes, they do seem to be avoiding any solid updates and improvements with regards to the data-engine, and of course the cursor adaptor takes you away from that, plus all the emphasis for VFP+SQL Server.

>The SQL engine had quite a bit of updates in 8.0, hence the SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR command!

Oh yeah, really major updates them, I wouldn't say "quite a bit", more like "slight changes" which I have yet to use, and I don't use anything but SQL for data tasks.

>>However, the improved updates on the OO side like event-binding and support collections is, IMO, a plan to get VFPers familiar with some of these OO concepts to ease eventual migration over to .Net.

>Yea right... Almost everthing in 8.0 has been on ER lists for WAY before .Net was even release for beta. Native binding, collections, empty class, etc... we have been asking for them for years. Now you are say, they gave us those so we would move to C#.

Fair enough.

>>My view on this situation has always been the same, MS are going to butter-up the Fox community with some great updates, not just normal updates, but ones that bring you closer to the features that are available in VB and C#,

>Please... I think alot of Fox developers are working in .Net and see the advantages to some of these features so they ask for them. But, as I said before, everything that I can think of in 8.0 has been either a directly requested feature or to solve a common complaint.

This is another example of Microsoft's lack of commitment to VFP itself, there doesn't seem to be much put into new versions that hasn't been asked for from what you're saying.

>>I still think that a lot of Fox developers are being lead down a path leading to one place only - .Net.

Well, this is the sad state of affairs we are in, truth be known there's not a lot you can't do with VFP given the experience, but we all know that doesn't reflect on what product we will be using in the future.
