I think that if your bigfield from sql has a whole lot of whitespace at the end of the text and excel cannot handle that many characters in a field. So in my case the alltrimed text portion was under whatever Excels limit is However if it wasn't I dont think this would work

Interesting just now I was working on another Excel thing.
I meant it 'might' work for a special set. Normally a memo field might not only have tons of data but might have CR, LF or CRLF in it as well. If it has then the problem begins. If working for you then don't fix:)
