lc_var, var_lc - either one of those sounds workable to me. The more "standard" one is to have these indicators in front, since the rest of the var name is descriptive of the contents.

The trailing version without an underscore could get confusing, if LC (etc) needs to mean something for the varname, e.g., last customer log date = LCLDLD <s>

and what's the director doing reading code? does he develop? if not, then why he needs it to be readable to him doesn't make much sense...
