When you live in a hub that also happens to be one of the largest cities in the country, sure. And there are plenty of other non-stops, but what I said was I'd choose places where _many_ people could do that.

Read what I wrote, John. I said "don't really get enough time." In other words, I enjoy them for whatever time I have (usually, part of the Saturday and the Sunday at the beginning of the conference), but don't use them to their fullest.

>So what you are saying is that when it is on sombody else's dime - you like the "ammenities" - but when you have to dip into your own pocket - you don't like them so much.

Actually, no. With my family, we stay in nice places with amenities, but I do enough shopping to pay reasonable rates for them. When I'm making the travel plans, I won't even consider a place that's less than 3 diamonds in AAA, unless there isn't one. (For example, last summer's college tour included Hanover, NH, where the best we could do was a Hampton.)

>And all the while - Las Vegas does not fit into *your* moral code....

You're really picking on that, aren't you. I said that _I_ don't have any desire to go to Vegas, and would prefer not to have a conference there. I didn't say that no one else should go there. It's also not about my moral code; it's that I find watching people gamble depressing. I also suspect, based on my experiences in Atlantic City, that Las Vegas will be far smokier than I like, but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Finally, why "your" in quotes? You don't think it's really my moral code?
