Thanks Larry that worked, I will try Tracy's suggestion as well. I was using ASELOBJ(..., 1) then working from there, Was having problems with that in certain circumstances.
Thanks to tunnel vision I never saw the 3 parameter
By the way found bug in Help file for ASELOBJ() in VFP 8 SP1 Help
Return Values
Numeric data type. ASELOBJ( ) returns 1 if successful or 0 if unsuccessful.
It returns the number of elements in the array. In the case of ASELOBJ(aResult, 3) the successful return value is 3 not 1
