Hi
I visit regularly www.ibphoenix.com . They have up-to-date news, knowledge base, download links, etc.
Downloads link : http://www.ibphoenix.com/main.nfs?a=ibphoenix&s=1068185393:69443&page=ibp_download

As admin tools, there are many, commercial and freeware. Usually, those tools support both Interbase and Firebird. I like IBExpert, from HK Software (it has some sort of IntelliSense for stored procedures and triggers and a nice "lazy mode" ). http://www.ibexpert.com/ . The personal edition is free, for a start.

We use the IBPhoenix open source ODBC driver. The only problem that I had with it was related to binary BLOBs (VFP crashed). But if the string is converted to base64, works ok.
Also (not free, but cheap), EasySoft Interbase/Firebird ODBC driver is considered a good one.

Issues? For one like me, that jumped from DBF world and forget usual troubles, none.
For you, used with SQL Server, I think that will be many (Firebird is a small footprint server, it hasn't as many features as SQL Server). Feel free to ask, I'll share my experience.

Have a nice day.

>>Hi!
>>Go with Firebird SQL. SAP, from what I've read in the past, is very big and complicated to mantain.
>>Firebird SQL is an Interbase clone, is small (3 MB download) easy to install an configure. Also has a 1.4 M DLL with client and server packaged in a single DLL, for local acces (no install or registry settings needed). Also a lot of free drivers and utilities are available.
>>It is very robust, we have an app that is in use for many months and hadn't even a single problem with the database (even if users like the RESET button).
