>Interesting piece...but it is ludicrous to think web services make server-based RDMB's obselete.

You're not really listening to my conclusions, John. Rather, you resist looking past the subject that you already know. I'm not sure why you have such a hard time with this, but, here is the conclusion to my paper:

So, will Web Services eventually make database servers obsolete? If next generation file based databases are allowed to develop and thrive in the market place under the dominating eyes of the database market leaders who make a pretty penny with their databases servers, I think the answer is clearly "yes."

You see, I say "will" and I say "if." I'm not saying DBFs + Web Services make Sql Server obsolete. I'm saying Web Services with future file based data systems may make database servers obsolete if they are allowed to thrive.

I agree with you that SQL Server is most likely a better choice for data stores than DBFs. This is because SQL Server was invested in and developed throughout the 90's while the DBF wasn't.

If that preference amongst devtool makers changes, or an open source project comes along and gives the industry what it needs, then file based servers will prevail. Maybe not Fox, but something.

>You start getting some converts in the corporate world - and them maybe - this idea could be taken seriously.

Its clear that your only perspective is from the bandwagon. Enjoy the ride.
