This is the same decision in the project I work in was held to.
We are still suffering from that decision. But I guess I'm preaching to an overruled converted. Just tell them upfront, writing your own framework just means having to rewrite "the" framework probably 2 - 3 more times <g>.

we are using dbi (and dynazip). activeX is a must for treeviews, and dbi was easier to integrate than the MS one. OTOH we are hosting IE directly, not dbì's version. But WebBrowser is often a different animal ...

In a few other answers there were problems cited with changing focus.
Probably stemming from the same corner: our problems with DoEvents.
Hint: give your goApp a method to encapsulate DoEvents and never call DoEvents directly from any code.

I'ld probably use exisiting pure vfp-controls (for instance for date entry) before going the activeX way. Better control vs. a bit more work customizing for our special needs, since some customizing / encapsulation is needed even with the best tools. But I'ld check for performance of the VFP control first.
