Hi Mel,
Are you running any Anti-Virus software? If so, make sure that you EXCLUDE the DBF, CDX and FPT files from bein scanned. What network protocols are you running. I assume you are using TCP/IP for the Internet. NETBEUI makes it easier to scan for COMPUTERS NEAR ME I have found in the past. So, you may want to add that Protocol.
I am attempting to setup a small LAN at my home office for some debugging purposes, and having a problem for some reason. Both of the computers are Win2000 Professional boxes, and one is a fresh install. I have a small hub that connects the two, and it also connects to a cable modem (which works fine on both computers). What I need is for just one of the computers to share the other's shared folder.
I will be the first to admit that setting up a LAN is not my strong point - so at this point I am just attempting to get it up and working sucessfully.
When I open My Network Places and click on Compuers Near Me, about half the time I get the error "Workgroup is not accessible. The network path is not found."
The other half of the time, it is just unbelievable slow (just opening VFP on one and attempting to browse a small table on the other system takes a minute or so to open and browse the table - eventually the connection will be lost and crash).
The cables, hub, and ethernet cards all seem to be OK and work flawlessly with the cable modem.
Any suggestions?
Mel Cummings
