Win9X and ME all support the NETBEUI protocol. Another way to quickly get a direct connection to a machine on the LAN is to type in:
\\MACHINENAME

at the RUN command. As in click START, then RUN, the type in \\MACHINENAME to get a quick conection. Browsing for COMPUTERS NEAR ME can take a while especially on a large network as it scans for packets.
