>Have you used SQL Server Enterprise Manager? IMO it's better at handling SQL Server databases than VFP is at handling its own databases. We should be so lucky as to have a tool that good for VFP. And if you want to talk views, updates etc. you have a full SQL syntax rather than VFP's subset.

I've used the "manager", Al (it's always winking at me on the task bar) ... what's your point ?

I was talking about "applications" ... and from a user POV.

I'm selling "apps", not "tools". The fact that "SQL manager" makes my life easier is irrelevant ... if it does not make my user's life easier.

That is the difference between me and ... ? I develop apps that are satisfying for my users; not ones that are "easy" (for me).

>Ironically, a third-world app might be a good use of MSDE over VFP tables. Power there can be unreliable; if you're an experienced VFP developer you can't tell me you've never seen a table trashed by a power outage. Even in 1st world Canada I've lost count of the times I've had to fix tables and indices corrupted by my apps being run on Windows 95 boxes with flaky NICs, substandard Ethernet cable and unreliable power. Frankly, it sucks.

Yes, well, the fact that I may dump IT altogether is because of the trashy sandbox we're now having to play in if we want to play at all. (MS ... YOU SUCK !!!)

I've already told users that we will not support them unless they run Win S2K or XP, and that W95/98 is GARBAGE.

Say what you will, but the "80's" at least had some integrity, when it came to software.

And, I still maintain that "DBF corruption" is more due to "sloppy programming" than anything else .... The simple point is that FPW/VFP is a "thinking man's/woman's" programming language .... In the right hands, it is a very powerful tool; in the wrong hands (which I dare say includes too many), it's a "problem" .... (I, ie. my Users, have never experienced, "DBF corruption").

>If you're talking speed of development it depends on a lot of things, not all related to the back end choice:
>
>- VFP Framework - if you use one, big win here. But both of you can use a framework.

Yep ... I use a framework ... my framework ... Which, of course, generates apps that are better than any other ...

>For a "simple app" I don't see the development time difference being "several months (at least)".

His app will always be "simple"; mine will be elegant and more appealing ...

But then again, most people will simply not "get it", or be able to tell the difference.

Rubbing alcohol, or wine ... same difference, right ?
