So, do you think that this "director" would also want to run the code through grammar and spell checker and correct the misuse of punctuation and paragraph formatting to make it more readable? ;<) I have worked for several clueless managers who probably thought that was an option. Seriously, if the guy understands coding, has a valid reason for making "his" standard one that almost no one is using and is willing to bear the cost of making the changes and fixing the problems that it may cause, I would try to persuade him otherwise but at the end of the day, if he demands it, he is the boss and I would comply and hope for the best.
