Hi John,

I downloaded NetBeans the other day from java.sun.com (bundled with J2SE). The GUI builder seems easy enough to use, but I didn't like the SWING look either. Supposedly, the new JRE supports a Windows XP or GNOME look and feel, but I don't know if NetBeans does.

The thing I disliked the most was the way JBuilder requires the programmer to create the UI. They use layout classes. These classes allow the form to grow and keep the controls (widgets) in the right position and size. I really don't like the look. I.e. OK/Cancel buttons fill the bottom of a form as the form is resized larger. So you have add things to trick the sizer. Not very good. This is of course using swing. Maybe this is one of the reason you don't see a lot of Java windows apps. Anyway thanks for the lead.
