Hi Thomas.
J2EE stands for Java 2 Enterprise Edition and is the Java 2 language and foundation classes. The C# language is very close to Java language and J2EE is very close to Microsoft's Dot Net.
C# and Dot Net probably exist today because of the success of the java language and the Java virtual Machine which allows java programs to run across all platform under an OS specific java virtual machine.
J2EE's wide adoption and success is likely the motivation behind Microsoft's creation of C# and Dot Net which compete against J2EE..
