More info - the string is longer than 255 characters, and VFP 'help' file says to map hexBinary to a data type of "Memo" - so I created a temp cursor with a memo field to plop the value into on a previous web service call and send it back out on the next call but I still get the same error as if VFP is converting it to type "C" before sending it back out.
