Because that's what the user wants, that's why! (She pays the bills...). While this is a truly excellent reason for wanting to do it, I don't think it can be done with a grid. You might have to consider desiging your own custom grid-like control. I have had to do this a few times, but it is not very easy and takes a lot of time. Perhaps you can explain this to your client and find out if she want to spend extra $$$ on something that is really just cosmetic.
