Thanks for the correction about Crystal Decisions being a spinoff rather than an acquisition. That was when licensing fees shot up.
>Sold by whom and when? Are you referring to Seagate Software? If so, it wasn't sold. It was spun off to it's own company, not sold. Ealier this year, Crystal Decisions announced it's being acquired by Business Objects. I don't think the acquisition has been completed.
