Dmitry;

We also have a Yamaha Clavinova, and like it very much. We have not used it for a few years as the midi box fell and was broken. We just got it back from the Yahama repair shop and I have a bit to learn about it.

The first problem was finding a piece of media that would work (740k?). We found some old software I am not using so we then attempted to format a floppy disk using the Yahama box. That did not work so Brian suggested we use one of my windows machines to attempt to format the floppy. We then plugged in the newly formatted floppy into the Yahama box and it recognized the blank formatted disk! Good news! Now this is interesting and deserves some experimentation!

As soon as I find the time I will plug in a floppy that has been recorded using the Yamaha box, into my Windows machine. I would like to see the file format and go from there. If the format is propriety and cannot be read all is not lost. I will simply plug in the Yahama box audio out into the computer sound card input. Then I will be able to save it in wav or any available format that my software is capable of.

Brian has recorded a few things on the floppy. The Yahama box has a great midi sound. Even so, I like my Steinway’s sound the best! I am not spoiled – I am ruined!

Let me know how you progress with this project. I will let you know what I determine as soon as I have some time. Time? What is that? :)

As for the quality of the two - I will have to check.

Tom

>We have both, acoustic piano and a digital piano (Yamaha Clavinova). Clavinova has a 3.5" disk drive where you can record music in a MIDI format.

>Do you know if I could take a MIDI file recorded to the 3.5 drive and convert it to a .WAV file? (an of course then burn it to a CD as an audio file)

>Also, in your opinion, would the quality of MIDI file created in a 3.5" disk drive be much different from a MIDI file you create if you connect Clavinova to a sound card from MIDI OUT output?
