Ok, besides the purely marketing angle, there is a reason for this post. < s >

We have just launched the totally re-designed TakeNote Technologies website (www.takenote.com). Why am I telling you this? Because I want to tell you about the tool I used to do it. The *free* DotNetNuke (DNN) portal framework is an extension of the free IBuySpy Starter Portal that Microsoft makes available on www.asp.net.

DNN is a VB.Net-based, open-source and includes all the source code for the portal so you can learn for it and extend it as you see fit. The only coding I had to do for the site was the Training Registration and Courseware Ordering modules (they will be replaced *very soon* by a free, open-source, DNN-based, ecommerce module).

Additional free DNN modules are available wwwcoder.com and for sale at www.snowcovered.com.

DNN has user logins, security groups, site traffic reports, a bunch of pre-built and ready to use modules like Announcements, Banners, Contacts, Events, Documents, FAQ's, Feedback, Links, News Feeds (RSS), Surveys, Weather Network, etc...

The upcoming DNN v2 will support XML Skins to make themeing a site a snap.

...and no, you don't need to know VB.NET or ASP.Net to get up and running with the DNN portal, so even VFPer's can use it! < g >

DNN goes on my "Highly Recommended" list!
