Hi John,

I'm working through the samples and tutorial. I've been very favorable impressed with JBuilder. It works great under Linux.

I've worked through the first "General Application" for "HelloWorld" and found the doc to be very good. I've also read the help on the editor and IDE which are both very configurable. I've also worked through the tutorial on building an Awt Applet called "Good Evening".

The "Good Evening" Applet can be built almost complete from a wizard which made it really easy to do. Applets use the Awt class, because browsers aren't yet ready for the more advanced classes used to build desktop apps. Even using the Awt class, there was some difference in the way the app displays between IE and Mozilla Firebird. When I had completed the exercise, I copies the "GoodEveningApplet.html" and the GoodEvening.jar to my document root, so I could test it in different browsers. Here a link if your interested:

With JBuilder, all application seem to be built from wizards. Here are some of the wizard or types of projects for web apps:

Applet
Web Application
Servlet
Java Server Page
Web Start Launch
Struts Converter
Action Form
JSP
JSP From Action Form

I have barely scratched the surface of Java and JBuilder. To become productive would be equivalent to a newbie just getting his feet web in VFP, so it could take a long time to really get a handle on anything.

I'm looking forward to getting into JBuilder's three tier development wizards. I hope it supports Postgresql. Maybe it will allow recordsets to be fetched into a java grid withing a client's browser, much like VFP can do working with cursors in a two tier app.

Regards,
