I didn't try to check whether this bug (aka feature) still exists in vfp8, and now I'm back to 7 anc can't try anymore:

If you try to call textmerge for any reason while you have a textmerge output open, the result of the textmerge() gets echoed into the output. IOW, if you use textmerge() anywhere between Set Textmerge On and Set Textmerge Off, the function's result is both returned and inserted into the current output.
