>Why would anybody be surprised that a country ruled by muslim fundamentalists would allow (or at least tolerate) any other religion but their own.

Unfortunately, as a Bahá'í, this doesn't surprise me at all. We are accustomed to abuses, almost since the Babí Faith (precursor of the Bahá'í Faith) started in 1844. The Báb (founder of the Babí Faith) was publicly executed in 1850. Something like 20,000 believers were killed, as well.

Violence and opression, to a larger or lesser degree, continued throught the 19th. and 20th. century, but it became worse after the Islamic revolution.

However, I find it interesting that the World is starting to notice - and the public concern over the human rights situation is surely contributing to at least avoiding mass slaughter.

>I noticed that the list of the countries which co-sponsor the resolution does not include even one arab country.

Interesting observation. But again, and unfortunately, this isn't very surprising, either.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
