I think the Chief Privacy Officer at your former employer may be omitting a few things - or have it entirely wrong.
If you communicate via email - I think it is far more likely that any reasonable expectation of privacy you may have may be gone. That said, an email between client and lawyer - falling into the wrong hands - does not destroy the privledge.
