You are absolutely right on the money here. A hotel off the strip is a daft idea anyway. Because one has limited time at these things very fast access to other Las Vegas venues would be great. In any case, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Venitian or the Paris could have swallowed a conference the size of Advisor Devcon without the staff even noticing < s >

I would guess a rate of $89 a night - of couse we are assuming here that the room money is all going to the hotel < s >

>While I agree that $159 is better than $239, that's *very* high for a Vegas hotel, even a resort. Bellagio and the Venetian don't charge anywhere close to that, and I would certainly classify those properties as "nice hotel resorts". Without checking, I'd surmise that with the number of attendees DevCon normally brings, that rate could easily have been halved.

>And, while I'm on the subject -- "a nice hotel resort that can host a conference like this". Are you inferring that there are no Strip hotels that could host this conference? I'd be *very* surprised if, for starters, Mandalay Bay, Caesar's, or the LV Hilton (which is next door to the LV Convention Center) didn't have the capability to host this, and for a HECK of a lot less than the Marriott is going to charge Advisor for *their* facilities -- especially with the number of room nights DevCon would bring to the table.

>Just my not-so-humble opinion, but I submit that Advisor really missed the target on this one...

>>>This hotel is NOT on the strip, but in west Las Vegas area, 10 miles from the strip. This *is* another resort hotel. Standard room rates are $239 per night.

>>>>I just got my December FoxPro Advisor. The ad for DevCon says it will be at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa. In case you missed it earlier, the dates are Sept 29-Oct 2, 2004.

>>Craig, you should have checked with Advisor on the hotel rates for DevCon attendees before posting your incorrect assumption here. Hotel rates for DevCon attendees will not be $239/night, they will be rated at only $159/night. For a nice hotel resort that can host a conference event like this for only $159/night is a great deal. I expect there will be sessions and events during the day and evening to keep people busy, learning, and having fun during the conference to not want to go to the strip other than before or after the conference.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
