I have MSDN so I installed "Office 2003 Professional Enterprise" because
1) it was there;
2) Outlook 2003 was said to be a vast improvement.

I agree that Outlook 2003 *is* much more utilitarian in both its general layout and some of its functionality.
But it comes with a bunch (I'm guessing) of HIDDEN "features", only a couple of which I've stumbled across so far.
1) It 'blocks' certain file extensions as attachments and they are not unblockable unless you change the Registry or unless you run Exchange Server as well.
2) The Help comes through the Internet!
3) It also 'blocks' temporarily certain parts of messages that come in HTML format. The way to unblock them is said to be there but the instructions are unclear at best.

But it is Word that causes real consternation!

The real problem to me is that, while they may have added many fancy features (the only one of which that I tried to use (XML documents) seems to require some 'kit' that is only going to be available in March 2004) they've done virtually nothing as regards the existing functionality of the product!!! Some real simple examples:
1) Most dialogs remain modal! This means there's no way to see the effect of what you specify until you exit the dialog. This means that if you don't like the effect you have to do all of the mousing AGAIN to get back to the dialog. Geez, Lotus WordPro had non-modal dialogs way back in 1997. Where has MS been on this?
2) Even in Word 2003 the "Insert" dialog still does not offer "Bookmark" as a rt-click option when some text is highlighted! "Hyperlink" is there, but not Bookmark! Still! I've gotta believe that people have asked for this for a long time now. I find that whenever I do a hyperlink I've first had to make a Bookmark. Why is one there and not the other?
3) Old bugs/oddities remain bugs/oddities, the ones I encounter being so since Word97.
4) Many new bugs encountered, especially when editing larger documents. But some even at startup. One has it indicated as maximized and the active application (start bar) yet not visible.

Word's Help also come from the Internet! Not a bad idea in some respects, but though I'm on a DSL service I've had 30-60 seconds waits for it to come up. initially I thought that I had a hung system with a bad Help file and only learned differently by accident. In my opinion the wait ain't worth the potential benefit.

All in all there seems no advantage whatsoever to implement Office 2003 unless you need the new features, and even then you might want to find out if they are actually there or if they've still got outstanding components required that have a delivery date some time in the future.

Just one person's opinion.
cheers
