I highly recommend reading as much of the Developer's Guide as possible before diving into writing applications. However, if you'd like to take the "minimalist" approach, definitely read the sections "Getting Started" and "Overview of Mere Mortals .NET" first. After that, I highly recommend going through the Jump Starts!
