Hi Lou,
If you have control over both ends, you should set up modems for error control protocols. This will prevent you from having to deal with the issue, unless carrier is dropped before end of transmission. Also, if this is a 'file' you are transferring, you could upgrade to PDQComm, and avoid the manual file transfer code work.
