In addition to Sergeys message, it need to be said that the "Export an Embedded .bmp Image into a File" solution works for bmps added to genaral fields with paint as ole server only.
If your default ole - BMP server is a differnet programm, lets say an image viewer, the method will fail.

>>I need to know how to find the length of the header in a general field. Lets say that I take the value of the data in the general field and place it in a string, where does the header end and the file data begin? I know for sure it isn’t a fixed length and there doesn’t appear to be any sort of delimiter at the end of the header. Any help would be appreciated, and yes I know that most people recommend against using General fields.

>One of the reason it's not recomended to use General fields, there's no easy way to export image back to a file. Each time of image has it's own format in general field wich also depends on the application associated with that type of image. For BMP files see HOWTO: Export an Embedded .bmp Image into a File mskb #Q161832 and http://www.utmag.com/October2002/Page31.asp.
