>4) Customer perceptions (i.e. "My nephew says MS Access(tm) is easier to develop programs than MS Visual Foxpro(tm)." or "I heard from a friend that Visual Foxpro is a dead-end language and I don't want to be stuck.")

But you still under the illusuion that people buy a product because of the language it is developed in. My prospects don't care what language I use. As long as it works and makes/saves them money - they're happy.

If the guy says his nephew says this or that - he's wasting yor time - tell him to give you a call if his nephew's project fails. VFP has been dying since before VB died:-). If you still sell projects based on your tools and not the impressions the prospect has of you - then switch to anther tool set.

First thing you need to do is qualify the prospect. If he's a tire kicker or demands you solve the problem this way or that way - and is not interested in your successes or skill sets - don't waste the gas for the drive to meet him.

What prospects like is a phone number or two of a company that has used your services before. Word of mouth still goes a long way.
