Terry,

>No it doesn't. Even non-VFP developers like JVP, you and others - have a right to voice an opinion. You paid for the subscription - and those of us that rely [mostly] on VFP will have to 'hear' what you say regardless of it's value.

Just to clarify, as I said before, I use VFP every day, so I could certainly be considered a VFP developer. I also use other tools. Does that make me a non-VFP developer? I think it just makes me a developer with expertise in various tools, with a long history in various versions of Fox. When I'm working in VFP I'm a developer. When I'm working in .NET I'm a developer.

>I could pine to you about the growth of Linux, MySQL and Open Source and how that makes your .NET and C# career a dead end ambition - but that wouldn't help anything! I paid my subscription fee too! I guess that would give me the right to make you feel uncomfortable and useless. But it would not be polite:-

I think a key to a positive outlook is to become skilled in good analysis and design principles, coupled with experience in several tools and technologies. Nothing you say about my choice of programming tools could make me feel uncomfortable or useless, because my chances for success are not tied to any particular tool.

I really don't think it would be impolite for you to say the things you mentioned above -- it's just your opinion and I can enjoy hearing differing opinions. (That's probably a matter of personality or style, as my primary decision-making technique is to gather a wealth of different opinions, mull them over, then make a decision, looking for concensus to form if the decision involves a group of people or a team.)

My wife tends to make decisions based more on right/wrong, black/white, with not much grey area in between, and holding differing views in balance during the process is much more emotionally draining for her.

I'm sure the UT has its share of both, so we will see things differently. That's the cool thing about community.
