Hi Steve
Did you ever find a import/ mapper utility? I think you and I have the same need; e.g. to be able to take any common data source (Excel, Access, etc) and pick the columns from that source which are then to be imported into an existing VFP table. "Import" is a poor choice of words here, because it implies as you mentioned, using the native VFP wizards. However, it does imply the use of something like OBDC to connect to the data source. The utility would not be a "one of", as Macia was thinking, because it will be in regular use.
A concrete example. We have customers that periodically receive price list from their suppliers in an electronic format. Our customers do not want to type into any application the new supplier prices ( "Why should I have to do it, if it is already in an electronic format?" They said.)
What makes this interesting is that our customers switch suppliers at the drop of a tenth of a percentage point. Every supplier publishes using a different data source. Even when the supplier is the same, the column order and even column names seems to change spasmodically.
Of course, I suppose I could "roll my own". But that would mean I would have to do some real work. Hmm.. I wonder, is there anyone lower down the ladder to whom I can 'delegate' this task? More likely, wishful thinking.
