I dimly remember a benchmark on FastCGI compared to CGI and ISAPI (Non-VFP!).
The perf difference between CGI and ISAPI was very great, and FastCGI was between the 2 other methods. As the server had more memory, the FastCGI was getting nearer to the perf of ISAPI.

Since this was a few years ago, I guess FastCGI will be nearer in perf to ISAPI, since processor speeds and available RAM have evolved more than disk speed.

But as always in perf, measure your own app. Perhaps the CGI approach is fast enough. Design your app with a very thin layer or acess method to switch between different communication mechanisms and deliver a "workable proof of concept" ;-)
