JVP will be a lawyer soon. Hopefully he will prove adept at solving matters with as little conflict, dissention, distraction and cost as possible. I just thought that apologising and/or cooling his dispute with SB might be something he could take in his stride.

Anytime people can resolve their own disputes - the better things are. Nonetheless, lawyers serve a valuable function. In my case, my mantra is simple - solve problems - with as little conflict as possible - but don't yield on necessary points. These can and are often opposing goals.
As far as SB is concerned, all of that is beyond hope. I did appologize for the comment - but heard nothing. I can't help it if he chooses to act irrationally. He puts the points out there - he should defend them. People expect no less of me - and I oblige. I don't run and hide under the guise of "refactoring" and censorship.
As far as lawyering is concerned - I do real legal work today. People like me as their advocate - because I defend their interests - and advise them appropriately. When there is nothing to gain - we don't push the issue. It is all about risk/reward. Sometimes, there are things that cannot be yielded - as the risk would outweigh the reward - which is kind of a backward way of looking at the whole risk/reward equation. When it comes to settling, I am a ardent student of Learned Hand - the greatest American Jurist to never sit on the Supreme Court. He was the first to quantify a formula for settlement.
