Thanks for the clarification. Several users have requested an "I-layer," a persistent, customizable layer between the framework and your app-specific libraries, which is what it seems as if you're asking for.
At one point, Kevin was working on adding this to the framework. Don't know how far he got on the design.
Search for message 783488 on thread 783022. In this message, Godfrey Nicholson gives implementation instructions that he says have survived a few upgrades.
