>Have you noticed how even well-educated people use the phrase "...could care less..." or "...could have cared less..." when what they really mean is "...couldn't care less..." and "...couldn't have cared less..." all the time? I hear it from newscasters, entertainment personalities and yes, even from people here who love to argue the fine points of a discussion. Do a search for these exact phrases in the archives and you might be surprised at the results. Or, then again, maybe you couldn't care less... :-)

I grit my teeth to keep from correcting it every time. Stuff like this really annoys me.
My husband is probably sick of hearing me correct the weather person on TV every time he or she says "temp-a-chur."
I've actually accumulated quite a list of this kind of stuff that I've encountered in editing, with examples of right and wrong usages. One of these days, I'll get it up on my website.
