Actually I've haven't noticed that. I'm trying to play it back and my mind and I can't remember it either. Maybe I thought they said "couldn't", but assumed they mumbled. That's my peeve. Well one of them.
Don't know why, but I can't stand hearing the word "irregardless" either. How is irregardless any different than regardless?
>Have you noticed how even well-educated people use the phrase "...could care less..." or "...could have cared less..." when what they really mean is "...couldn't care less..." and "...couldn't have cared less..." all the time? I hear it from newscasters, entertainment personalities and yes, even from people here who love to argue the fine points of a discussion. Do a search for these exact phrases in the archives and you might be surprised at the results. Or, then again, maybe you couldn't care less... :-)
