The cable company in SA (as did a bunch of company's then) did alls its accounting on spread sheets - they replaced the adding machines with portable compaqs - kept the staff - and rolled on like a high tech version of the `30s.

Must confess - I was also hawking macro-development services back then. A computer store had me write an "animated" Merry Christmas macro for the computers in the show window - it just flickered the holiday message garnished with astrics - over - and over - and over -
