What I mean is we can use version control to go backwards with our code. Cut it pasted it and trow the unuseable ideas. Or make lava-code out of them.
If the machines that build the cars are (re)mounted there is no easy way back. I trust that carmakers have some sort of planing mechanism what ever they do. But you must see that on the level of ercetors. We do robot programming. On this level is nothing left expected output (in cars/h) and the deadline ...
