If the hard stuff Hilmar and Anatoliy suggest doesn't work or is just too hard, you can try to select A4 paper format... the "metric", i.e. European one.

Also, open the plastic cover somewhere above the power cord (yep, had a lot of experience with DL 3400, sold a few dozen back home), and check the DIP switches, or go through its setup - DL3400 has two emulation modes, its native and Epson (ES/C or ES/C2 or whatever), so the command set may differ depending on the setting.

It has always confused that the metric Europe uses A4 which is exactly one foot long, while this non- (or anti-) metric continent uses Letter which is 11 inch. Go figure.
