If I just type the HTML code in the body of the message (even if the format of the message is HTML) the recipient sees the HTML code and not rendered version.

I don't see Rich Text setting as an option in my Outlook. When I send a message, the Format has choices: Plain Text and HTML but not Rich Text.
I must be misunderstanding your suggestion.
