Two good developers could probably handle most of the projects I see today. With the tools we have - there ain't no project I've seen that need much more - if there are too many developers - I sometimes suspect the people paying for the project are suckers or have cash to throw away (or they had a hiring agency write their specifications<g>) - OR - Some managers are seeking job security, ie "Lookie - me - see all these people I talk techno-geek-speek to - and remeber the last two decades it took me to learn the words of your market - you let me go - the last 20 years are down the drain"

A good software business should have a ton of salesman and just a few engineers - this stuff aint that hard - unless some idiots in charge of the process.
