>Probably already mentioned here, but I didn't see it. There's a new case study in the latest MSDN flash that refers to FoxPro: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/casestudies/casestudy.asp?CaseStudyID=14755

Microsoft's position on Visual FoxPro 8.0 with respect to Visual Studio .NET 2003 is very similar to SQL Server 2000 - they are two tools that work well together. VS .NET 2003 adds many powerful capabilities to VFP solutions such as web development. The success stories are increasing rapidly of companies with VFP based solutions moving their DBF data to SQL Server 2000 and creating web pages (ASP.NET) and XML web services using VS .NET 2003 - while still using VFP. Microsoft is not trying to move VFP developers away from VFP. We are continuing to educate about the capabilities of VFP 8.0 and VS .NET 2003 working together as well as help those VFP developers who are using VS .NET 2003 to succeed as best as possible.

The Custom Data Systems, Inc. (CDS) case study on microsoft.com was in error recently and it has been fixed. If you re-read the case study at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/casestudies/casestudy.asp?CaseStudyID=14755, you will see that it is more clear on the fact that CDS did not replace VFP with VS .NET, but instead added it to their existing VFP application (as well as SQL Server). The case study now properly promotes VS .NET and VFP working together. Unfortunately I was not alerted to review this particular case study. But for the future, the process has been fixed so that I am included in the review of any upcoming VFP related case studies that I am not directly working on.

All of the changes to the case study were confirmed with CDS. Below is a list of the 4 key changes changed or added to the case study from a few days ago for clarification:

- Updated side bar Solution Description: Adding Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET to the existing Microsoft® Visual FoxPro® based application for AM4 yielded a fully web-enabled solution that supports no-touch deployment.

- Sentence in introduction modified to: CDS wanted to Web-enable their existing Visual FoxPro application by combining it with the power and flexibility of ASP.NET.

- Added a sentence to the section about using SQL Server with VFP: AM4 was originally written in Microsoft® Visual FoxPro® database development tool. While still using Microsoft® Visual FoxPro® as a key part of the solution, CDS moved their DBF file based data to Microsoft® SQL Server.

- Added Visual FoxPro to the side bar with a link to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro as one of the Software and Services used for the solution.

We are working on some interesting VFP 8.0 based case studies that will be posted on microsoft.com early next year and we hope to find more to continue posting a few others throughout next year. I will make sure that new VFP 8.0 case studies are also included in the MSDN Flash newsletter as needed. For those interested in submitting or recommending to someone a great potential VFP 8.0 based case study for Microsoft to promote to help market Visual FoxPro, refer to the case study template and instructions at http://gotdotnet.com/team/vfp.
